Unique. Dark violet color with a clear rim. The nose shows spicy black & purple fruit. The palate has a high acid character right away. It gives off more of an apricot note than anything else initially before the spiciness & brambly character emerges. Nimble & focused Zinfandel. Silky tannins. Very nice.
Maybe this should be scored higher. Creamy and ripe but also maintaining acid and freshness. Violets lavender garrigue spice but mostly medium red fruit. Raspberry and strawberry. Mike officer should be thanked for saving some.of these old vines. The only problem is over consumption at 15.4% hurts more Than 12.5% but apparently we aren't supposed to talk like that now for fear of being ipob snobs
After barrel tasting the '14 was inspired to check in on an older vintage. This showed very nicely, rich yet still precise in the zinberry fruit. Has that depth and purity of purple fruit that the site can yield. Was even better with a little air in the glass. A hit of lavendar and herbs gave it some intrigue. Very fun to drink.
