View From the Cellar

(Clos des Baies (St Emilion)) Usually shown alongside the Vaulthier wines, although not part of the Vaulthier portfolio - I think this is made by one of their employees. It has fresh, perfumed, slightly minty fruit on the nose, with a bright and crunchy-crystalline character. Fine and light on the palate, a little chalky, with an attractively supple and relaxed presence. An appropriately structured underbelly, with good if lightly chewy tannins. Good acidity too. There is a slightly bitter edge to the fruit which I find rather appealing. Overall, a good effort.
