7 Tasmania Wineries Jan-14; 1/9/2014-1/14/2014: {diam, 12.5%, A$40} Four years on lees has let the bread/chardonnay characters dominate mild strawberries. It’s medium-bodied; the yeast characters are soft on the palate. There’s medium/high acidity, quite powerful but creamy medium-sized bubbles contribute to a medium/long dry finish. Good wine at a decent price.

The nose has a golden raisin component that is not disagreeable. The palate is fairly simple, and there is just a touch more residual sugar than I'm used too in champagnes, but it's all nicely balanced with acid. Very interesting bubbles from a new region for me.

Tasmania Wineries Jan-12 (2) - Tamar Valley; 1/15/2012-1/19/2012 (Tasmania): {A$38} Some white-flower aromas, but with a strong underlying pinot-osity. Palate starts with citric and apple notes; clean and polished, but not terribly complex. Fresh, high-levels of acid help the impact on the palate; medium-bodied, medium-long finish. Really needed more time on lees for greater depth.

Crisp citrus and light bubbles, nothing better for brunch, whether on its own or in a mimosa.
