Dark forest fruits, sweet spices, beautiful oak and some green herbs in the bouquet. On the palate juicy dark fruits and beautiful oak as well. Beside that some bell peppers and sticky tannin. Try again around 2020. Score 89 for now but it could be a few points more around 2020.

(Chateau Desmirail (Margaux)) This is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Quite a dark and concentrated wine, with a narrow rim of colour at the edge. It is all flashy and toasty oak on the nose, with roasted coffee, and a rather roasted fruit character too, although possibly some of this is the oak character bleeding across the fruit profile. The palate is supple, lightly polished, with firmer stone-edged fruit than I expected from the nose, with a very welcome bright acidity at the core. The tannins come in appropriately with a firm, slightly chewy character, perhaps unsurprising with that much Merlot. There are certainly some attractive elements here, although it does feel a bit tarted up.
