Consider this an experiment. I purchased a Eurocave from someone and their remaining wine came with it. This was one of the wines left and since the time I had unwrapped it I had been very curious as to HOW a 10 year Pinot Noir would perform. Well, overall not bad!
Color: As expected the color was light; light Burgundy red, a little rusty brown mixing in, bit not as much at the edges as I would have expected, more like a faded rose.
Nose: Cinnamon, older, almost dried strawberry and forest floor. A bit of that dried leaves smell older wines exhibit.
Palate: At first tight and mostly acidic. I thought the fruit had dropped. After 30 minutes of air it started to unfurl. Cranberry and strawberry, silky, tannins all but gone. A little bit of the cinnamon spice and some earthiness round out the flavors. The acidity is great right no as the fruit is mellowed from time and the tannins are almost gone.
I still would not age California Pinot Noir en masse, but this one was a pleasant surprise!
Cheers!

This wine was far too old a vintage to fully appreciate; if only we would have crossed paths 3-5 years ago, I can only imagine how much better it could have been. That said, even at this age, the was a "pretty" wine and one that opened the evening quite respectably.

Way too old. Aroma was cinnamon and red berries as soon as the cork was pulled. Faded quickly. Fruit gone, no tannin. Only acidity left.
