Decanted and consumed in a Grassl Cru over several hours. Fairly open for business from the start. Medium body, elegant, mineral, nice acidity, fruity. Not a Bordeaux for those looking for power, but drinking quite nicely to my taste, although perhaps a bit generic in style. Poor QPR at greater than $50, but good for the close out price I paid 10 years ago.

Created from a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, this beautiful Comtesse is the 2nd wine of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (Chateau Pichon-Lalande).
I have never had the 1st wine nor purchased any yet, but Reserve Comtesse easily ranks in my Top 3 of second wines (Along with Clos du Marquis, and Le Petit Clos Apalta!).
Initially tight and broody, perhaps a signature of the 2010 vintage, this opened up after 24 hours in the bottle!
After 3 hours of initial bottle breathing, this Reserve Comtesse 2010 was still not ready to come out to play. Felt unbalanced and even the nose was lacking the graphite and pencil shavings I was craving.
Hints of red and black fruit on the palate, and medium tannins on the 1st day with our Chinese dishes at wonderful Vintry.
It was on Day 2, having been left in the bottle and in my cellar at 14C, that the aromas improved.. some flowers and black fruit was there.
The tannins became rounder on Day 2, with more density and weight on the palate too. Much better but perhaps still some years before this shines. Perhaps it may even beat the wonderful 2014 Reserve Comtesse I recently had?
Jancis Robinson is right though, there are hints of dryness on the end but this remains sophisticated and pleasant on the front palate.
Why the meagre 3.8 star score on Vivino and my sub 90 assessment here on CT? I paid nearly USD 100 for this, simply could not find a solid vintage Reserve Comtesse locally in Malaysia.. and paid through the roof!

Very nice, and has obviously quality in the fruit, but feels a bit young still, and not enough of the secondary or tertiary notes to make it stand out vs the competition on the day. Good but stick it away for a few years and this will almost certainly improve further.

Drinking well. Colour red, slight tinge of purple when opening. Nose quite soft and elegant, taste long, well balanced. Very acceptable

Mature but missing some mid-palate weight. Nicely rounded tannins. Enjoyable.
