The nose is more inviting than the actual wine can deliver, while there is an initial burst of black cherry and currant fruit the oak, charcoal and alcohol in this one overpowered it and led to a bitter/acidic finish. This was decanted for two hours ahead of time and I'm quite disappointed given that this should be at peak levels about now. Maybe I just have a poorly performing bottle, but not impressed given the price point.
Hendry is one of my favorite “go to wines” for a trip to a restaurant. This was a beautiful dark raspberry with blackberry, raspberry and spice on the nose. I decanted it for an hour before leaving for the restaurant. Mid palate was full of more dark fruit with a little cedar and pepper. It was nicely balanced with good tannins on the tongue. It had a long finish leaving you wanting another glass.
Drank from a 375ml. Decanted for a short period; however, the wine is still young and tightly wound at this juncture. Classic Napa profile: Black fruits, vanilla, and still primary in its profile . Average finish. This should improve with bottle age, and there should be significant upside future potential.
