  • 1 hr decant. Small amount of very fine sediment in the bottle. Nose has classic Lafite pencil lead and cedar over restrained blackberry scent. It’s not overwhelming — in other words, you could spot this as Lafite in a blind lineup if someone told you one of the wines was Lafite, but it doesn’t leap out at you like it does in a great year. The palate is closer to generic classic Bordeaux than an expression of a great claret. There’s nothing wrong with this, it’s actually very good, it’s just not special. I’m going to agree with @Jeff Leve’s note from 2017. Not going to fade any time soon, fwiw.

  • Anniversaire d'un grand ami.Robe relativement claire.

  • ***Romance is what it takes to inhale all the beautiful and aristocratic charm and class of this wine. Very dry, very stingy on fruit, but killer aromatics of pencil shavings and cedar chest with tiny bits of antiqued red berries. Surprisingly long finish that comes across dry and and light footed. Another journey back in time to a wine that I drank on the cheap back in the day. Drink!

  • Upon decanting, the wine was lean and acidic. It opened up in about 45 min. Beautiful fruit as well as tobacco, chocolate, mushroom, and leather. Long finish. No sign of tiredness.

  • Lafite Rothschild vertical (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Medium expressive nose displaying subtle black fruit with a hint of red, a hint of crème de cassis, red currant, plum., strong lead pencil, bitter milk chocolate, green bell pepper, ash and mineral. Medium concentration, nicely layered black fruit, silky, slightly hollow mid palate, bright acidity, strong mineral, noticeable angular tannins and a medium long subtle black fruit driven finish with lead pencil at the end. Perhaps due to the other great Lafites, this seems a bit angular and hollow. The nose is still quite enjoyable, kinda classic claret.
