  • Similar to my last note although I’m picking up some waxiness I didn’t note last time around. It’s still a richer style that lacks a bit of acid, but it’s holding up better than I expected. I think this has the ability to go another 3-5 years before declining.

When I read about this wine being close to Batard-Montrachet and saw the recent price development I bit the bullet and grabbed an old bottle with an old price to check it out.

    So my second Guy Amiot...

Opens up nicely, with the typical honey, beewax, and subtle tropical fruits aromas but above all this is a second layer of something I never felt before.

There is also a nice broad chocolate note, hints of caramel and vanilla.
Surprisingly for me though, there was a slight smokey cucumber note there. This was especially prominent when you smelled the dried glass. Unexpected but quite interesting and not unpleasant.

Drinks decently, and yes a bit warmer vintage because basically no acidity here.
Compared to other X-Montrachets the fruit sweetness is also not dominating yet. So personally I could enjoy this with a bit more bottle age still.

Unfortunately, it seems a bit oaky at times, like its not perfectly integrated yet.
There is a good level of freshness nonetheless and its not overpowered by honey or sweetness on the palate yet.

So for me this still has some ageing potential.

Unfortunately, as much as I love these rare wines, the much cheaper Amiot Guy - Les Caillerets 2012 impressed me a bit more.

    Nonetheless a very nice wine...

  • Vibrant yellow straw.
Creme brûlée, sweet pineapple, oak and malo with a touch of heat.
On the palate it is full bodied and integrated. A riper style from this producer. Would prefer a bit more acid.
Drink now before it picks up more bulk.
