The bottle was in perfect condition, the long cork was pristine. Dark garnet colour, large amount of sediment. Complex combination of red and dark fruit, cherry, mild vegetal notes, earth, leather, tobacco, spices, liquorice and hints coffee and chocolate as well as balsamic notes, with high, lively acidity, medium-fine tannin and superb length. Great concentration!
Medium- to full-bodied, firm and structured, with the typical Sangiovese dryness and rusticity. The wine started to drink well after two hours of aeration, was more enjoyable on day two, and then fruity, deep and harmonious and almost mesmerizing on day three. (That said, my wife passed and called it manure topped with liquorice sauce…). Judged by this well-stored bottle the wine is not yet at its peak; to the contrary, it will probably drink best in eight to ten years from today. A food wine; pair with hearty pasta dishes, e.g. pasta with ragout of rabbit or wild boar.

Still alive.
Dark purple, bricking at edges. Fruit present but fading. Still has underlying tannins. Deep flavors.

Dark fruited, mature cherries andre some smoke, a bit overdone, woody tannins. Powerful, yet still a bit short.

Enjoyable old Sangiovese. Notes of dried leaves and mint. Good acid.
