Work Wine Tasting - Spain (Home): Still very dark and dense. Fleshy dark fruit. Quite plush and full on the attack, but this now has a dryness to the finish. It's certainly calmed down and mellowed since first tasted eight years ago, but the length of fruit isn't there to cover the dry tannins. A phase, or slipping out of kilter? Hmmm. Somewhere in the *** range depending on your preferences. ***

This one had been lying around awhile, and when opened it was like unlocking an attic, smelling stale -- musty and dusty, with old wood and leather expressing decay, the colour showing signs of brown and orange rust. But then something rather strange happened. While some mustiness remained, the fruit just exploded, initial grape juice notes turning into a vibrant arrangement of blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry, plum, and prune, with sweet vanilla, oak, Italian herbs, and white pepper coming later. But then, on the palate, that richness gave way to some remarkable acidity, with cherry, raspberry, and blueberry tartness taking over. It's likely that this bottle was at least a couple of years past its prime, yet it showed a lot of life, the tannic structure still firmly in place. The wine does seem to lack integration, the disparate elements not quite fitting together (and not collectively coming across as distinctively Spanish), and it doesn't have the depth and complexity for a 90, but it's a solid 87-88 even after over a decade, and its many virtues suggest giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Aromas and flavours of dark chocolate, sweet tobacco, berries and a touch of pain grille. Well integrated, subtle oak. Most Crianza would be dried out by this point, yet this medium bodied, balanced wine is at its peak and probably has another year of life left before the fruit starts to receed. Palate is a bit uncomplex, and doesn't full deliver on the nose, which is why I haven't scored it low 90s. QPR wise, this is a $20 Crianza that was worth it.

Well-balanced Medium-body Tempranillo suitable for pasta, broiled stew, game and beef ragu. Hints of white pepper, cedar, tobacco, cassis and blackberries. I love that gluey taste typical to Bordeaux blend that arise with alcohol. Tried the same vintage couple years ago, but it tastes much better now!

An amazing for its money wine from the ''celebrated'' 2004 vintage. Deep ruby with a narrow garnet rim. Evolved with roses, mostly red fruit(cherries), some vegetality like tomato and balanced use of oak. Vibrant on palate with a silky texture, bright acidity, polished tannins and generous alcohol. Well balanced with a medium + length. RTD will keep for 8 years minimum.
