Wow, what a surprise... decanted and tried a bit right out of the bottle, it was a killer! Smooth, of course, with no evident tannin after all this time, yet the fruit was still there as good as ever. Sweet cherries and chocolate, a big mouthful of fully mature CA Cab. Kudos to my cellar for keeping it perfectly for almost 30 years :) Wish I had more. Faded a little after two hours, but still 94-95. Best with no air time.

Decanter two hours before drinking. The wine exhibits a tawny color leading to a brick orange rim, with a nose that shows dried black and red fruits with notes of dried fig, prunes and dates, along with a note of sleek, expensive wood, dried herbs and minerals. The palate took longer than the nose to open up, but when it did it was medium bodied with elegant and sandy tannins that have held up well after more than twenty years of age. I think the wine may have been better a couple of years ago and we all thought that it was beginning to fade, however it still showed plenty of pretty fruit, earth, cigar smoke, balsa wood and almonds which led to a medium length finish. Those who are holding on to these will do well to find an occasion to drink them.

Decanted for 1 hour. This wine exhibited a dark ruby/garnet color. On the nose, aromas of dark cherry cobbler, blackberries, raspberries and plum were complemented by notes of vanilla, licorice and hints of earth. On the palate, flavors of dark cherries, raspberries and blackberries were complemented by notes of spice and earthiness. The fruit definitely tasted fresh still and I can still see this going strong for another 3-4 years. HS92

Grilled Lamb with Friends (MI): Cork broke apart. But Brian did a great rescue job. Definitely aged both in color and palate presence. But still doing well in the first 45min of being opened. Tobacco, some charcoal, and some mediterranean herbs (or am I picking up the lamb roasting:)
