Appearance: bright, clear, with deep intensity of purple color. Legs on glass, no change between rim and core.
Nose: clean, medium intensity, youthful aromas of red and black fruits: blackcurrant, bramble, dried fruits of raisin, kirsch, baked, jammy; and oak: vanilla, charred wood, coconut, smoke.
Palate is off-dry, medium acidity, fine grained medium tannins, high alcohol, medium + body. Medium + flavor intensity with oak aromas of vanilla, charred wood, coconut and smoke, fruit aromas of dried fruits, raisins, kirsch, baked and jammy, as well as blackcurrant and bramble. Length is medium -.
Wine is of good quality: it is intense with typical hot climate aromas, body and concentration. However, the acidity is higher on the palate than the tannins and fruit character, suggesting it has been acidified and is not fully in balance; its tannin structure dominates the finish bringing the length to medium -. It is not complex because its flavors derive from youthful aromas of fruit and oak.
Drink now or within two years.
Guess: Aussie Shiraz, $40 for all that oak.

#WASyrah Twitter Tasting (E & R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Wine #5. Very forward nose, showing big fruit. On the entry, you can tell this is a young wine. A bit disjointed at the moment, and harshly tannic for my palate. Some vigorous swirling calmed this badboy down a tad, and that fruit really stood out. Lots of cherry and plum, but the tannins and acidity are both quite apparent. Give this one a year or two and it'll shine!

nice wine, bright colors, fruit forward without being an overpowering syrah with too much spice/oak. Definitely in the drink me stage
