Mid to pale red colour, Minty and meaty nose, bright wine, mid-to light weight with crunchy acidity, light summer strawberry, a bit of tartness that seems to accentuate lean fruit, fine tannin, yet a surprising bit of savoury length

brought to a blind-tasting, i thought it would be informative. was thought to be cru beaujolais or a bad attempt at pinot noir. earthy, cherry, a little licorice, and a very light body. the acidity is very high, no surprise, being champagne. i genuinely enjoyed it, it tasted like a simple, enjoyable table wine. of course that's not true in america, its price reflecting its rarity. but it was educational to taste the backbone of champagne in its still form.

2 weeks in France; 4/14/2012-4/28/2012 (Provence and Dordogne): This was reminiscent of cru Beaujolais, in the nose and in the mouth. Purple fruit and carbonic maceration/bubble gum on the nose. Very bright, mid-weight with a linear attack of wild strawberry and raspberry fruit, leading to a savory, earthy finish, with subtle tannin. Racy. Tasty.

(Geoffroy Pinot Meunier Coteaux Champenois Cumières Rouge) Medium dark raspberry red color; appealing, tart cherry, tart raspberry, sous bois nose; tart cherry, light pepper, mineral palate; medium-plus finish 88+ points
(René Geoffroy Cumières Rouge Pinot Meunier Millésime) ($64.00) A sappy, beautiful fragrance; a little envelope of cherry tobacco smoke. The palate is satiny and yet there’s a slim edge of tannin leading into a suave and finely earthy finish, porcini, pancetta; lots of 2nd-echo tertiary stuff, armoire, cooking aromas, roast carrots and onions. I am generally cool towards the still reds in Champagne, but this just conquered my ol’ heart.

POP. Earthy, dusty tannins, medium body, dark cherry, hi acidity for a read wine. reminded me of a young Beaujoulais. Overpriced, but glad i tried it.

Minty and meaty aromas. Light bodied with okay length, there is little generosity though.
