  • Started out stern but rallied in a serious way given an hour or two in the decanter, when the texture got nice and silken. The fruit is showing the same as my last bottle 2 years ago, piercingly deep black and richer than anything from this vintage seemed like it would offer when they came out. Still showing young and packed with structure, sadly my last bottle.

  • More accessible and fleshy than I might have expected from a Faiveley from this period. This is drinking very well. Still a youthful showing down to the bright ruby hue, but it's more weighty than '01s tended to be when they were released. The fruit is black-pitched, uncharacteristically deep in tone for Chambolle, with a stoniness to it and a full, robust presence. This is not one of those Combe d'Orveaux's that makes you feel as if you're drinking Musigny - doesn't have the dimension and the tannin is a bit raw - but it's a complete wine at a friendly stage for drinking with the structure and stuffing to suggest it's still got more to show in reserve.
