  • Robe : Noire.

  • Intense dusky red, showing signs of its age. Slightly curious though not unattractive nose. The palate is a real surprise and I don't think there's any way I'd have guessed Cab Franc. Its got great intensity to it but the flavour spectrum is more S Rhone. The complex flavours are backed by good tannin and I'd guess this has years left in it. Nice finish and great length. Great wine!

  • Delicious, earthy and still-youthful (drink to 2030 ?), the La Butte Mi-Pente was decanted and served 30 minutes later, being fully open at around the 75 minute mark. The wine is deeply earthy, but I do not find funk per se. Leather and wet forest floor predominate. It has a great acid backbone that keeps the wine fresh throughout a meal, a medium+ body, some puckering tannins, a grapey finish and a hint of dryness to complete the package. Great QPR.

  • It has been years since I last opened this. Typical Cabernet franc funk with tolerable TCA, mud soils, and flowers. Still some fine tannins hanging around, firm mid-palate, if memory serves me correctly, this has put on some weight and complexity. Vibrant acidity and ever so slight warmth at finish. Drinking well now with years to go, this bottling is certainly a good bargain. As previous taster put it: “tres bien”. How I wished I had bothered to learn French properly when had one year to do so in my teens.
