  • Medium bodied St. Emilion that plays in the classic camp as it comes to its sub appellation. I really love what this producer has done over the years by staying true to Bordeaux, made by mostly Merlot. You wouldn't know it here, because this is graphite tinged, dry, elegant, and fully resolved with just a touch of Barnyard. Still fresh, but fully done evolving. In a good place with nowhere to go, this is a Drink if you have it. One left here...

  • Gut gereift über die letzten Jahre. An der Nase subtile Aromen von Beere, Schoko, Minze, Eiche. Die Tannine weiter abgeschmolzen und runder, insgesamt sehr weich. Guter Abgang. Nicht extrem komplex, aber gefällig.

  • From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 1 hour. Final glass best, once it had warmed up fully from cellar temperature (normally I prefer my Bdx a bit cooler, but not this one). Raspberry jam/underripe blackberry fruit and a little mint—no sign of the cinnamon/plum action I noted here on 26.02.2016 and 02.02.2019. Complacent, pleasant, well made for sure, but I don't think this will improve. Barely acceptable value for the 50€ paid en primeur, although a true right bank afficionado might think otherwise. 89(-90)P

  • Deep ruby, aromas of leather, earth, vanilla, wet leaves, blackcurrant, blackberry, strawberry, nuts & smoke. Full body, strong acidity & plenty of grippy tannin. To taste redcurrant, blackcurrant, blackberry, strawberry, vanilla, cedar, smoke, leather, earth & toast. Long. Outstanding. Good flavour intensity and lots of complexity. Still very fresh and in my view plenty of life left.

  • Very nice bottle - this time the the oak was a little bit prominent and didn't fade away over 5 hours. Other impressions could be copied from the last notes. Some bottle-variation here but it's a beautiful wine though that has 10+ years of life ahead...

(Château Canon-la-Gaffelière) Dark red violet color with a little cloudiness; focused iron and tart cherry nose; tobacco and plush tart red fruit palate with good grip; medium finish (55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon)
