Part of a mixed vertical tasting of Bonnes Mares. This was the best of the Jadots tasted (95, 98, 99 and 2002) in my view. Good fruit, nice balance, soft tannins. Not exceptional in any way, but very nice.
Last had this wine in 08 and while it is better now, and a bit mellower, it has a slightly hollow feel to it that I don't think is going to resolve or improve. Nice flavors and a pretty nose but wrapped up in a medium to light body and the various properties don't quite connect into an integrated whole.
Some Wine Tasted at the Zachys Auction; 3/13/2014-3/14/2014 (RN74 - San Francisco CA): Open several hours before serving, but it certainly could have used more time open (or in the cellar). Enticing floral start with great baking spice. Sensational array of black and red fruit flavors, slightly more subtle with spice. Lots of power and density maintains balance with firm structural elements. While this comes across as quite harmonious, it will clearly be better as it softens further over the next 5-10 years.
