Valandrau vertical (1991-2020) (Fribourg): Selected tasting notes from a complete Valandraud vertical (1991-2020) hosted by a collector with an estate representative. Main observation was that both the work the estate did during the transition phase 2000-2012 is clearly bearing fruit in more recent vintages, further helped by warmer growing seasons that are favorable for this cool site in St Emillon. Additional comments included in the tasting story.
Tasting note: Cherry fruit, leather and barnyard notes but with a slightly chemical touch. Also coffee flavors. Fresh and vibrant acidity as well as a markedly sweet fruit on the palate inject youthfulness and life.

Tasted blind. Floral, notes of green dried leaves, tobacco and old leather, red fruit. Sent me straight to the Left Bank… beautifully balanced with high acidity and fine tannins. Delicious.

Surprisingly delicious with red fruit, earth, and truffle. It is resolved with alluring sweetness. A really enjoyable bottle to just pop and pour. Drinking beautifully at peak.

Tasted blind. Not my first time having this and it completely buckles the common thinking about 1997. Great wine, lovely fruit. Supple and rounded. Earthy, velvety and delicious.

Tasted blind. Notes of dried herbs and grass, red fruit. Really chewy, velvety and delicious. Truly balanced and lively. Second time I’ve had this - a bit less fruity than the previous bottle but just as good. Hi
