California (Private Location): Nose: At first, like Dirk mentioned before, a lot of unpleasant notes like burned rubber, brett and frail oak. But gets better with air. Palate: Medium bodied wine with nice acidity and a bit more "fat on the bones" than the Heitz before. But I miss the tension & elegance. Medium lenght.
Ripe California Wines (Private Location): *** Please see this note only in the context of the whole tasting *** Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah Wine: Double decanted Hazy, deep garnet color, unfiltered. Fully developed nose which had a some unpleasant notes at first, but these notes vanished over time. Some eucalyptus notes, which made me think that this wine is the Heitz Not so intense and long as the Heitz, but quite comparable. Drink now and ejoy it.
29 years old, I've had it the entire time, and it has aged well. Moderately light, still has fruit. Reticent nose, okay length, very nice mouth. No stewed fruit or other defects. Black cherries, some earth, some leather. Very nice package.
