K&L Old and Rare Wines Blind Tasting (K&L, San Francisco): Medium ruby with significant bricking; fantastic nose with coffee, leaves, roasted, red fruits, slight bell pepper; balanced palate, fully mature, fades a bit quickly on the palate; medium finish. 80s very nice Bordeaux or maybe traditional California cab. 92-93 this tastes expensive and good quality. Upon reveal: About the right age and region, and this drank way above its reputation. This was one of my favorites of the tasting and had great complexity.
A bit musty to start with, but pretty sure this was the style rather than TCA and it certainly grew less bothersome as we went down the bottle. Lean, grippy, but some good spice. Classic lunchtime claret.
