Shaved coconut immediately on the nose, accompanied by bright, friendly Tempranillo fruit and vanilla bean. Very light bodied, tannins almost nonexistent. Tropical pina colada fruit and cherry bonbons. A hint of barnyard that lends complexity and elevates the wine as a whole. I get a Hawaiian vacation vibe. Still, I must say that the Tondonia is better.
From memory: better the first night, when Bosconia - Burgundy comparisons made a bit of sense; took on a bit of a stewed character (reflecting the vintage, or my biases about the vintage?) a night or two later.
Popped and poured. Has high toned dusty aromas of lightly figgy strawberries, red cherries, vanilla, beetroots and liquorice. Its medium bodied palate has a layered caressing Burgundian feel to it with high acidity, a certain leanness and taut red fruits. Ends medium long to long aromatic, and lip smacking. After an hour puts on weight significantly and is more perfumed, spherical, ultra-fresh, stylish and medium long with super fine tannins. A very special Rioja and a great surprise.
