(Tasting with Friends) #3 of 5 in the tasting. Fully tertiary at this point, it’s all about burnished leather, cedar, loam and autumn leaves, with all of the fruit having dropped out. More of a novelty than a wine you would have join you for dinner; but that was the point of this tasting, to introduce the group to different styles, varietals and ages of wines.

Tasted blind, and as soon as I smelled it I thought: Pomerol. So it was hard to shake but it sure felt like that, with these inviting juicy dark berries, clay and tobacco, mint and eucalyptus with sandalwood. The palate was fresh and inviting but stull showing structure. Black cherries topped in tobacco and graphite and clay and mint. Really impressive, this has held up so well and has life to go.

Cf our notes from Apr -17. This bottle has kept its fruit much better. Large bq, we add tobacco and coffee, cherry and cassis fruit clearly present, which balances the wine much better. Longer aftertaste w alcohol and touch of complexity. This bottle would have lasted longer, say 2-3 yrs. Enjoyable!

Decanted,
Last call, last bottle...sliding down the slope.
This fell apart after a few hours, but was quaffable thru dinner.
Drink 2-4 years ago.
