Fully mature and drinking so well. It has notes of dried honey, truffle, lavender, aniseed and preserved lemon. It is layered and voluminous, with awesome power and precision. Whilst acidity is relatively gentle, it still shows Corton grip and structure, and the finish drives on and on.

Initially heavily sulfured just all flint. As the sulfur blew off in an hour it started to develop white flowers soft stone fruit. Still very fresh and alive. Finish was enormous and lengthy!

Some great things are made even greater given context. This was opened tonight to say goodbye to my wine and life mentor. The wine mirrored the man. It’s certainly at the end of peak drinking. It opened a bit unwieldy but blossomed with air and exposure. Golden color. Perfect nose of yellow fruit, honey, flint and chiseled wood. A harmony that just can’t be missed. Weighty and serious palate that is tied with a perfect bow. Silk. Long. The finish is everything one can ask for. Just like the man. A great great wine. Drink up. (97)

(Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne) Light medium gold color; toasty oak and vanilla nose with a little reduction; tart, focused, concentrated, minerally, lemon palate with oak spice; medium-plus finish

Structured but less so than the last bottle. Good but not quite chiseled, which I found to be a problem sometimes around this period. 93-94
