  • I didn't read the TNs here prior to opening this, but I'm finding some similarities. As with what my friend Jan Brekke tasted, upon first opening this wine, it was incredibly flabby. I noted this to Jen and she giggled, as she hadn't heard that term for a wine before. It was quite flabby, however, and I was disappointed. Then, over the course of an hour, it really opened up, and changed so drastically. Loads of tropical fruit, and the flabbiness turned into a more rich and oily mouthfeel, and somehow it seemed to show some acid (tied to the tropical fruit profile that came through, perhaps?), and a long finish. Open this and wait a while before enjoying your own, that's my suggestion. By the third hour, it was singing.

  • Bought a few of these during Berserker Days. I like the flavor profile, but it really needs a shot of acidity. Too flabby for my tastes.

  • (Disclosure: John and Katie are good friends but when it comes to reviewing wines, friends or not, I call them the way I see them!). I had been holding back from tasting this bottle (so many wines; so little time!). What a great surprise! I paired this with a crab Louis at my club and it was wonderful. Lots of spice on the nose with wonderful spicy pear, light citrus with just a little oak in the mouth. Just the right amount of acid to stand up to the Tobasco on the Louis. And a long, almost sweet finish. I love Cellars 33's Pinots and this Chardonnay ranks right up there with the lighter CA Chards. I bought all I could get. This makes two Pinots and this Chard all earning 95 points for me.

  • Just pulled from my ambient cellar, which is probably around 59F. This could benefit with some more chill on it. This is interesting for me as I had the Novy 2010 Keefer Chardonnay over the last couple of days. It would have been better to compare them side by side, but my memory is still pretty fresh. On the entry, ginger spice attack with an earthy undertone; heavier in body weight than the Novy with more depth and layers of flavors; what comes to mind on the mid palate is over ripe pear; compared to the Novy, this is lower in acid and lower in noticeable heat, although both are listed at 14.5%. There is a general over all sweetness on the drying finish, which ends with some sticky brown sugar notes. Good to Very Good.
