  • Tasting Ground official tasting, Cornas La Geynale, From Uncle to Nephew (Oinoscent): Bottles open 10.15 and tasted 14.00, no decant
Different to 2004 and 2005, this shows a sweeter, more “honey” note, caramel, ripe fruit, some pickle notes too, berries, cinnamon and clove mix
The palate is a touch more herbal, medium to full body, elegant with red fruit, nice tannins, soft but not dissolved, some cherries/spices in the back of the long finish

  • The wine is clear, with medium ruby colour, garnet towards the rims, and thick legs.

On the nose, the wine is clean, with medium plus primary aroma intensity of ripe red fruits, red berries, cassis, spices, black pepper, herbs, mint, floral, blossom, along with medium secondary aroma intensity of clove.

On the palate, the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium green tannins, medium plus alcohol, medium body, medium plus primary flavour intensity of ripe red fruits, plums, cherries, blackberries, raspberry, strawberries, spice, black pepper.

Finish is long, showing green notes towards end palate.

The wine is of an outstanding I believe, as it is showing excellent balance between primary concentrated fruits, acidity and minerality.
It is having great length, along with pleasant and appealing complexity due to its multi layers of characteristics.

The wine was expressive enough at time of tasting, with great depth, a big wide and elegant wine, already giving hints of what it can become in few years time, where tannins will be soften down, and more secondary and tertiary characteristics will come forward, while keeping its great acidity and fruit concentration.

  • Simon Beatty Memorial Dinner - Chablis Le Clos (Noizé): Ah that's more like it. Not where the 2000 is, hard to know whether that is youth or just that this wine doesn't have *quite* the stuffing of its millennial flightmate - perhaps just a little less of that thrilling acidity. Anyway - top marks and thank you.

  • Simon Beatty Memorial Dinner - Les Clos table (Noize): This was double-decanted around three hours before it was consumed, and I'm not sure that helped its performance (although getting rid of the sediment before travelling was probably wise). When I decanted it the nose was incredible, smoky and savoury like Ardbeg Corryvreckan, and seemed to fill the room. By the time we drank it that had abated, and on the palate there was a hint of the strange over-ripeness shown by the 2005. Four more bottles and hoping the next is better.
