This is my first of the 09. It is better than the 08 and reminds me of the 07, which was great. More integrated and balanced than previous. Needs at least two hours of decanting to pull it all together. Deep dark garnet color with a floral, strawberry nose. Lots of oak here but the finely extracted fruit will balance that in a couple years. After a couple hours this became rich, luscious vanilla, mocha, plum and dark cherry. Yes it's hot when first opened, but I like that. It mellows nicely through the evening allowing the fruit to pull huge. So glad I have more of this.
Full bodied, deep crimson color, rich, polished and accessible but a just a bit hot on the nose and finish, nose of spice, dark fruit, sweet tobacco, taste/mouth-feel is chewy, structured and fleshy. I think it is still young and will soften and integrate nicely with a little more time in the cellar.
Needed a strong wine for a rough day. Aromas of blackberry, currant, flowers, cherry and herb. This is a big, heavy bodied wine with flavors of blackberry, dark plum, mocha and coffee. Get a little burn of heat that dissipates with some time. Finish is long but a tad strange with a weird not that lingers. Should have decanted this but oh well.
