Birthday wine. Cork was soaked through with the faintest hint of seepage below the capsule. Not decanted but stood up 48hrs in advance. Light to moderate browning on the edges. Initially there was a strong vinyl/plastic nose but this dissipated with air but never resolved. Later it was nearly all mushroom and forest on the nose. Palate was smooth and soft with near complete integration of tannins, but still had a core of sweet fruit with a bit of energy. Moderate acidic and slightly clipped finish. An elderly wine for sure, but quite enjoyable for the occasion. (an interesting aside, I'd only encountered the "vinyl" character on the nose once previously, and it was a '79 PLL)
