Ard & David’s 50th birthday dinner (Chez David, Amsterdam, NL.): Top shoulder level. Remarkably lively colour for age; lovely nose, cassis and mint and cedar; juicy and lively palate, light but energetic, nervous acidity; light finish with a slightly sharp edge.

Purchased 2 bottles in auction. First bottle was definitely past age with some signs of seepage. The second bottle was actually very good for an old Bordeaux with 20 minutes of air. Not amazing but definitely fun to drink a 50 year old bottle of wine!

PnP, served at room temp. Smokey, some dark fruit on the nose.
Grainy, noticeable biting acidity mixed with mature dark fruit. Good texture. Very well alive at this age. Little to no oxidation notes. Went well with grilled steak. Although, 14 years older than the 1983 drank before it, this offered slightly better enjoyment with its texture.

Amazingly bright and fresh, kept in passive cellar by friend since purchase until giving to me. Red with minimal brick, really beautiful nose with pepper, earth, red/black fruit. Good acid and moderate smooth tannins; light in wieght. Nice finish.

Surprisingly smooth and drinkable, even after 49 years.
