HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Wow, the straight up Meursault drinks at this level?! Classic Coche popcorn nose and palate with incredible acidity. No fruit at all. This wine evokes huge wet boulders. If I can level some criticism at this wine, it's that it feels more diffuse than a single-vineyard Coche might. But this lowly village wine easily blows other more "esteemed" chardonnays out of the water.
Yellow, bordering on gold. Lovely perfumed aromas just shot out of the glass when poured. Very intense, lots of minerals, candy, butterscotch and mango cream. Palate had lovely acidity, you could feel some age, but there was a lovely balance of minerals, acid, yellow fruits (peaches, kiwis, mangoes) and a hint or two of some secondary notes like honey and hazelnut. The complexity and power for a village wine is just quite admirable really. Lovely wine.
Very nice "Coche-Dury Junior." The signature green apple fruit and dense texture are on display, but in miniature compared with the single vineyard Meursault. Perfectly fresh and lively. Not much complexity after 11 years, though.
