Aged Bordeaux Gems (with Unico/Heitz MV in the mix): Magnum. Top shoulder level. While good, this wine was without exceptionalism. It is a bit too ripe and candied with not enough acidity to keep it fresh enough. It doesn’t have the complexity, fresh- and sharpness of the La Tour Blanche 50 we had next to it. Still quite enjoyable.
TN: Muted nose, not overly interesting. More open on the palate with lots of very ripe and candied fruits, wonderful nutty aromas and hints of herbs. Rather on the very ripe and too fat side of things. Not enough acidity to keep it completely fresh and weightless. Still, quite enjoyable.
Decanted: Double decanted only. No extensive decant needed

Magnum rarities tasting (Near Basel): This was part of a rarity old wine tasting hosted by a merchant and collector. All (almost) bottles were from magnum and double-decanted. The line-ups was dominated by aged Bordeaux, but also included two vintages of Unico and one from Martha's Vineyard. The undisputed winners were Pichon Lalande 82 and Lynch Bages 82. The most memorable, however, was the Pontet Canet 29 and St Croix Dumonts 21. The Unico (60, 65) were underwhelming as was – once again for me – Mouton 82.
Tasting note: Magnum. More oxidative, nutty notes with candid fruit and fresh green herbs after a while. Fresh and at the same time viscous, spicy palate.

Pristine bottle purchased at auction several years ago. Fill into the neck and a perfect (new) capsule; suspected it was reconditioned at the chateau but not listed as so in the catalog. Appearance of the wine through the bottle was black with a slight yellow edge: not uncommon for Sauternes so old.
Unfortunately, upon opening and noting that this was rebottled by the chateau in 2005 (noted on the top of the cork), the wine was absolutely maderized and shot. As one of the tasters noted: one of the best damn cream sherries he'd ever tasted!
