Beautiful Elegant wine. Dry with near perfect blance. Moderate tannins and crisp. fruit was a subtle blend of blackberry, currant and cherry with hints of tobacco and earth. Served this over dinner of grilled filets with roasted garlic cloves and mushroom sautéed with an Italian merlot, a touch of sugar and shaved cheddar. Topped the filets and graded a bit more cheddar over that. Wine just paired wonderfully. Only thing I would have liked is a bit more intensity on the nose.
Approachable but needed close to two hours of decanting to really open up. Still, clearly not yet in its prime. I am going to hold off on touching the rest for 2+ years, at which point it could easily be 93+ wine. Tannins are strong but well integrated. Juicy on the palate with moderate-to-long finish.
A little underwhelming for the label, a perennial favorite of ours. Medium in color, body and intensity, offers up rich aromas of cherry, bark and spice. Palate shows classic flavors, just not terribly complex nor rich. Most of the tannins have faded, but still exert some balance, and the medium+ finish was pleasing. Drink now.
