Actually thought I was being poured a barbaresco, and upon tasting thought it was a middling/simple one, until learning it was actually just their basic nebbiolo and being rather impressed. For that price, it's a worthy wine, but nothing to get excited over.
Some of the electric purple fruit on the nose, I normally associate with grenache based wines. Nice fruit, though really very little depth. Was told this is all barbaresco fruit, seemed a bit of a stretch to me. Maybe shorter time in oak, less time in the bottle? Simply tasted simple.
