Crowd pleaser; this didn't last long with its silky mouth feel. Darker side of the red fruit spectrum with clove and baking spices. Nice acids up front, sneaky smooth tanins bringing up the rear. Enjoyable.
Tasted at winery in vertical with 09 and 11. (10 was best, this was next, 11 was last). 2009 was a hot year and it shows, with this wine clipping 14% abv. Very prominent fruit, but surprisingly dark fruit notes, with some "dustiness" up front and on the nose. Black cherry and a hint of smoke in the finish are very nice, but I was put off by a slightly strange turpentine/solvent kind of note on the very end.
