  • (Tasting at Shaw & Smith) Big riot of fruits on the nose: peaches, apricots, passionfruit, guava, gooseberry, tropical fruits and even sweet ethylene and ethanol notes. The taste is markedly more austere compared to the lively nose; here it is clean and somewhat crisp, with notes of zesty lime, grapefruit, lemon, and really rather prominent schisty minerality - slate, limestone, oyster shell. There's also some green cut-grass and even a savory pucker, along with very light spritz, but doesn't quite live up to what the nose promises. Generally clean and elegant, it has a fair bit of intensity and poise, even though it is missing the clean acidity and tall verticality one might expect from adelaide hills. Grows well on the palate after a day or two in a half-opened bottle.

  • Light yellow in colour, with tropical lychee, passion fruit and gooseberry on the nose, the palate shows excellent weight with passion fruit and capsicum flavors the highlight.

The acid is slate like and mineral with a grippy astringency that adds texture and contrast on the mouth filling finish.

It is not hard to see why this wine is consistently amongst the benchmark's of Australian Sauvignon Blanc.

  • {screwcap} Terrific nose with smells of youthful tropical fruits while still keeping a whiff of pungent gooseberry to it. Seems like the ideal mid-range sauvignon, avoiding all the extremes. And although the fruit is nicely ripe on the palate, the flavours follow the nose and there's little residual sugar evident, the seeming lack of acid really causes the finish to fall quite flat and robs the wine of freshness. This desperately needs about 15% barely-ripe semillon to give it some spine. As it is, it's really hard to reconcile the promise of the nose with the flabbiness of the palate. A pity.
