Paired with ribeye. Deep red in colour. Nose of red and black fruits, spicy and vanilla. Beautifully integrated on the palate with a long finish. It is in a wonderful place at 29 years, but I’m sure it will go on for many more years. Too expensive to buy more unfortunately.

Dark black fruits, leather, coffee, American oak. Wonderful. Drinking better than the 09’ (maybe that’s just the age) Very long finish. Still plent of tannin to keep this going for another 15+ years IMO. 97

1994 Penfolds Grange came out of the bottle swinging! This wine has it all in spades. Incredibly rich balanced red and black fruits, cigar box, leather, dark chocolate and Turkish coffee and wonderful spice making everything nice. The wine is so giving and well built, it was a crime not to eat the remaining sediment 🤓While I avoid American Oak at all costs this wine always magically integrates those flavors to create an even more astonishing wine. Incredible. 94+
Grange- it’s a Shiraz/Syrah? What? Yep
inspiration from Europe and precision winemaking practices developed at Penfolds, Schubert made his first experimental wine in 1951. In 1957 he was asked to show his wine invention to the Penfolds board- it went horribly to the point they shut it down. Instead of being a good employee following orders, he hid three vintages ‘57-‘59- eventually he won them over and was awarded the right to re-start production in 1960- crafting a @wine_spectator wine for the year in 1995 for the 1990 vintage. We are lucky he never gave up.
