Q2 Tasting - The Rhone! (The Apt): Our last Dierberg - seems like the end of an era (this was one of the first wine clubs that we joined together before realizing the bottles were purchasable for 30% less through other channels). Another counterpoint to the Rhone tasting that we did earlier in the day. This was a fine wine and the right wine for towards the end of the evening, but I thought not as good as the Proper which came before and certainly not the Constant which had a bit more interest in its fruit balance.

This is heavy and syrupy and a bit strongly alcoholic. There might be some blackberries and blueberries and maybe even some cola flavors. There's a bit of earthiness and dirt to it. It's got some brambles as well and vines and something else. Maybe a bit of greenness? Probably some smokiness. Lacks complexity. It's a fine wine, but I remember liking it better.

Big and thick, this wine attempts to maximize what can be extracted from the syrah grape. Complexity's not quite there.

Robust structure but no real fun flavors. Like a large picture frame without a painting in it.
