Nothing bashful about the very pretty and regal nose of mature black fruit, pepper and smoked meat. Palate is more light bodied and certainly delivers the Chave ethos but is lighter/shorter than the best of vintages.

Tuesday (Chicago, IL): Plugging one of the few remaining holes in the list of Chave vintages I've tasted. This was outstanding for what you would have expected for a wine from an ostensibly dogshit vintage. But of course Chave is Chave and manages to pull victory from the jaws of defeat. Red fruited, light, and elegant, with lots of perfume overall. Relatively thin on the palate, but still plenty of delicate syrah aromatics overall. Best to drink up.

A late release magnum. Drinking at its peak. A delicate silky Syrah. This really shone with food, as on its own the frailty of the vintage was too evident.

Indeed, probably past peak, but still a pleasure to drink. Drink up, now.

Clearly fading. Light in color, flavor and mouth feel. But enjoyed. Tasted with an '82 and it showed much better than the '84.
