Checking back in on this spectacular offering...and Yeah...it's that good!!! Drank over three days and it still needs several years to show its best. Tremendous structure and grip with a plethora of secondary and tertiary notes. The challenge will be keeping my paws off the remaining bottles while they develop.
Perfect bottle. Deep, dark, purple, young. Dark fruit, oak, herbs. A bit funky in the beginning, but after an hour or two the bouquet is clean. Plum, prune, blackberries, liqourice and oak. Even minerality on the nose ... crushed stones. Nice flavours! Nice balance, good grip. I must admit I am puzzled. The alcohol is 15,5 % according to the label, but it feels balanced and the fruit and acidity stand up well. Nice tannins too in this full bodied wine. Not extracted at all, which I feared due to the high alcohol.
I always look for this Gigondas from Santa Duc. One of the best buys I can find. You get a lot of wine for your money. This wine make me think of Nigella Lawson. 94 points today, but may reach higher score in a few years.
