DAMN WiNOS: Dune 2 (Rye Restaurant, Eugene): Opened for a hour before pouring, this had a nice mix of fruit and savory notes. Ripe black cherry, black raspberry, fig jam and then the leather, spice and kelp show up. Still has 5 years.

I have tasted many wines from this estate including a number of the 2010 cuvees which have all been great. This bottle was purchased on release and was stored perfectly thereafter.
Unfortunately this bottle was in a weird dumb phase- very little aromatic development and not showing much on the palate.
Still drinkable, but just barely.
This things happen so will chalk it up to bad bottle....

BODY: violet-garnet color of great depth; perfect cork; medium-full to full bodied.
TASTE: smoked pepperoni sticks; creosote; smoky rubber; "dark"; reminiscent of a Cayuse Syrah, but without the olives; dark, earthy and bitter. Gut impression score: medium-high 80s. Drink Now and over the near term.

Not decanted. First pour out of the bottle: kirsch-like alcohol, unpleasant sediment particles in every sip. [Pause to do a double-take at the label--15%!!!] So we poured the wine thru unbleached coffee filters to clean up the particulate and then gently added water, about three tablespoons in all, which freshened up the fruit and smoothed out the alcohol. At this point modestly enjoyable with our taco dinner, but without intervention no way could we have drunk this.

Similar to my last bottle. 16% alcohol according to the back label, but the wine carries it remarkably well. There's none of the "kirsch" flavour that I dislike. Still quite young colour. I have a few more, but will drink them within a few years in case the alcohol outlasts everything else. Still some (good) tannin, not too much.
