Much different than I was expecting, and in a good way. Super smooth and airy, almost pinot-like in terms of structure. Tannins still present, but well integrated. Really nice.

Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #027 Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2010 (By JdB): The wine is almost black. In the bouquet beautifully ripe dark berries, chocolate and herbs and spices. On the palate a sweet start, blackberries, cassis, blueberries, garrigue, beautiful acidity, round tannin and some oak. Full bodied, a great length and concentration.

Dense, dark blue-purple in the glass; aromas of plums, figs, & spice; flavors of plum, peppery spice, figs and tobacco; powerful, but well balanced, if a bit tannic; will benefit from a few minutes aeration before drinking. Overall a solid southern Rhone entry, worthy of roasted meats, stronger cheeses, etc.

Splash decanted and took to a friend's house for dinner (BBQ beef brisket). Notes shortly after opening. Dark reddish purple color. Garrigue, plum, blackberry & black raspberry on nose. Similar flavor profile on palate (pretty dark for a CDP but not a jammy flavor profile). Medium+ body with nice acid / fruit / tannin balance. Long finish. 92-93 range. Will buy more if still available. Excellent with beef brisket & smoked chicken.

Didn't take notes - better with air. Very enjoyable with good structure. 91+/-
Not enjoyable as my last bottle but still quite good. Color was pretty dark for age and 100% Grenache.
