  • {screwcap, 14.9%} Glowing garnet, showing the right age. Polished, developing nose, of black fruit, gentle spice, integrated oak, and a mulberry background. The longer it sits, the sweeter the aura it picks up. Then tannins are soft, resolved, and have nothing further to add really. Medium acidity holds it up; there's a jammy sweetness that brings it all together. It's lovely at the start, but as the level in the bottle drops the alcohol level does rather catch up with you, I must say. The aromas match the nose exactly. Medium weight at this age, with a medium/long finish that is very enjoyable. But maybe the balance isn't quite right; it seems like the kind of wine for everyone to have a generous glass of, admire copiously, then move on to some thing else. More cellaring isn't going to improve things either, but it'll hold a long while still. Opened and poured, with a fair bit of fine sludge showing up both in the last glass and inside the bottle, so maybe decanting would have helped.

  • Lovely lightness to the wine. Beautiful aromatics, some terciary showing - leather, meat. good flinty minerality.

  • Very disappointing. The alcohol shows, in all the wrong ways. Hot on the middle palate and disjointed

  • A very savoury take on shiraz - it easily fits into the syrah style. There is a touch of mint together with extremely restrained black fruit. Anybody who (ignorantly) say that Australia only makes fruit bomb shiraz should give this a try - they would be shocked at how it differs from cliched big shiraz. Maybe a touch too far in this direction for me, but variety is the spice of life after all.

  • A deep purple to red hue , the nose is packed full of aromas that range from licorice to floral blackberry and even green olive, it's amazing to think you can get such a mix of different, yet complementing characters from the one glass.

There are layers of sweet berry fruits initially that slowly change gear to a more savoury mode that is backed by dark fruits and spices , the wine finishes with considered oak and superb length.

This wine is an excellent example of what can be done with Shiraz from the Frankland River region, when great fruit is in the hands of an excellent wine maker.
