A magnum of the 2001. I have been disappointed with some of my Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon but this bottle was fantastic. Now 21 years old this was fantastic. Great depth fruit flavours and light tannins.

'Aged Aussies' Dinner (Joseph's Place, Wong Chung Hang, Hong Kong): More faded in colour than the 1998 drank alongside it. Nose is coal tar soap, quite reticent. Lovely balance and elegance. Palate is really fresh, lifted and a gorgeous expression of Cabernet Sauvignon in its feminine guise....which might seem like a contradiction for an Aussie but definitely isn't with this wine.

Pristine bottle, third from a five bottle lot purchased at auction in 2010. Level into neck. A blend of 65% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot, 14% ABV. Medium-deep sombre red, mature but lively appearance; rich and fully evolved nose, blakccurrants, cedar and smoke, beef stew, eucalyptus, earthy and warm but fresh; full-bodied but fresh palate, well-balanced, with a satiny texture and fully resolved tannins; the finish is plummy and a bit port-like. Drink soon.

Quite disappointed with this wine from an estate which produces wines generally like. This is big and bold, a caricature of an Aussie wine. Nose on stewed dark fruits, game and spice. Palate is on the full body side but manages to find a bit of balance. the wine stayed the same after two days.

Beginning to fade in colour; candied fruit, plenty of red fruit, hint of pepper, leathery; soft, strawberried, complex; finishes with aplomb.
