Popped and poured into a decanter near the end of the night so this didn't see as much air as it needed. It was still opening up as we drank it. The cork was pristine, surprisingly, and looked like it could of been from last years vintage. Also, very little sediment. The bottle was sourced from wine bid about a month or so ago. The wine smelled great, with lots of mushroom, leather and tobacco. On the palate, it was elegant, soft and light to medium in weight. Same mushroom, leather, tobacco profile with a little red and darker fruits. As it opened, the wine put on a little more weight and the fruit started to emerge more. I would have liked to have tried this after a few hours of being opened as it may have been better, but we killed the bottle fairly quickly. I'll try to give my other bottle more time to open up. We all enjoyed it. With Eric and Rita.
Brought to angst house for dinner with Dan and Lora. Their neighbor Morgan joined us. Dan made halibut so wine was not quite right with food but really tasty. Opened it about an hour before dinner. Dan and I were the only ones drinking wine but it was great very smooth with a nice soft finish. 19years old and still going strong.
Lovely and youthful at 19 years old. Very longilinear and elegant, a typical 1996, lacks typical Lanessan brawn on the palate. Finishes very long and fresh. Could be kept easily for another 5-10 years. Superb QPR.
Decanted for a couple hours then consumed over and evening saving a glass for day two. Upfront it was in a nice place with mature fruit and resolved tannins, just a hint of pencil lead and a medium finish. Day two it hollowed out a bit and is just not as plesant. I would drink these in the next year or two if you want them at peak.
Garnet, sediment with obvious bricking, Still with a lovely nose of black fruit, barn and fall wood, cedar, refined alcohol....nice sediment, attack with classic Bordeaux refinement, mellow tannins...would buy more
