  • Perhaps I should've consumed this wine in its youth, because it's richness/lower acidity seems to be working against it in the long run. This was still a very nice wine, but it had lost its youthful verve, so the focus was entirely on the honey, peach nectar, apricot jam elements, while the minerals and chalk were less pronounced, and the freshness from the acidity seems muted. These sound like bad descriptors, but I was expecting a lot from this wine after drinking it with the producer in Mosel and bringing a bottle home. Classic case of the traveling in wine country vs. bringing the bottle home dynamic. Still, it went well with mandu and some Korean rice bowls.

  • Epic Mosel Valley Wine Trip; 10/1/2011-10/4/2011 (Mosel Valley, Germany): this riesling has a beautiful light gold color, with dried pineapple, circus peanuts and mango nectar aromas. the palate is gorgeous, just dripping with fruit: pineapple, apricot, papaya. enough acid to keep it balanced, but this is definitely a richer style großes gewächs.
