  • Tropical, honeyed, orangey... too sweet and flabby for me.

  • Lemony colour. Very fragrant, with rose petals, musky aromas, ripe apricot and peach, neroli and soap, also floral notes. At almost three years of age the wine is still very fresh. In the palate has creamy texture, intense flavour, but is lacking in acidity which makes it slighlty flabby. Although it has an array of flavours it really is so obvious that could be said to lack elegance, complexity even. On the other hand it very well made for what it should be.

  • Much more restrained and food-friendly than the Trapiche Broquel. Tropical fruits, rose petals, herbs and spice. Mid+ bodied with sweetness and balancing acidity. A nicely made aromatic white with good q.p.r.

  • Pale yellow. Intriguing floral nose. Fuller body than I expected. Good acidity and balance. Plenty of fruit flavor of the light tropical persuasion. My score is mostly a function of a lack of enthusiasm for this varietal. This is an exemplary Torrontes.

  • 85-86 Pale straw color. Nose of tropical fruit (maybe papaya), nettle, touch of cedar spice. Aromatic - yes. The palate has a lot going on - but this is more of a light quaffer. Tropical fruit - again papaya/guava more than anything - but with citrus acidity and zest. nettle herbs and spice notes fashioned in for good measure. Seemed to disappear on day 2 but came back strong on day 3. May need air and even time. Nice summer quaff and a compliment for Asian / Indian spices and aromas. Medium finish.

(Colomé Torrontés, Salta) This white varietal may get to be as popular for Argentina as Malbec has become among red wines. DNA testing shows Torrontés to be a cross of Muscat and the Mission grapes of Galicia. Colomé’s version is sourced primarily from its estate in the Calchaquí Valley of the far-northern province of Salta. The wonderful floral aromas are certainly reminiscent of Muscat, but it’s the depth of flavor and lively acidity that make this wine so exciting. Hot Picks

(Bodega Colomé Torrontés) From grapes grown at Estancia Colomé and the Hess-owned Angastaco vineyard near Cafayate. Pale straw in color, with orange blossom, jasmine, pineapple, and peach on the nose. A rich mouthfeel is accompanied by healthy acidity; despite the light body, the litchi-accented finish is lingering. Terroir: Colomé

(Bodega Colomé Torrontés, Salta) Vineyards here are among the highest in the world, ranging from 7,218 to 9,892 feet, and the estate is farmed biodynamically. Colomé’s 30-to-60-year-old Torrontés vines yield expressive aromas of lemon meringue, tangerine, pineapple, strawberry, violet candy, rose water, and white-linen perfume. This viscous, mouthfilling wine is lifted by underlying bright acidity and pithy fruit tannins, which are especially prominent on the long finish. It is unoaked and dry. Special Report: Argentina
