Pnp. Another 09 that is coming together nicely. Fairly rich and round dark fruit but am not getting any of the excessive ripeness I was getting a few years back. This has nice balancing acidity. Perhaps still a touch too much oak and toast but with another year in bottle, or a proper decant this should be just fine. Fine to medium tannins. Drinking window here is way to early, this should be just fine for another 7-8 years.

Second and last bottle. Round and smooth but still marked by excessive oak and toast for my taste, not sure this will be fully absorbed. Prefer the more structure and Cab biased Clementin second wine.

Reading some of the recent comments in French, am wondering if they had the same wine.... While also a second wine produced by Pape Clement, I understand that les Cles de Pape Clement has a slightly more Merlot heavy blend than Clementin (just like Smith Haut Lafitte produces two different second wines with "Les Hauts de Smith" and "Le Petit Haut Lafitte"). The 2009 Les Cles de Pape Clement is 46% Merlot, 44% Cab Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Cab Franc, 14% alc. Still a fairly dark garnet in the glass, the Merlot is clearly showing with round and rich dark (and overripe) fruit, still some oak on the nose that has not fully integrated, a fruit forward wine with fine and almost fully integrated tannins. Not a lot of structure. Short to medium finish. Not bad but not great either. Drink over the next 5 years. 88-89

It was still excellent, better than expected, after 14 years!
