Beautiful colour. The ageing has changed the characteristics of the wine dramatically. You get none of the typical fresh flavours you expect of a Marlborough Sav Blanc. Instead, a very mellow and rounded profile with peach flavours coming through.

This wine aged beautifully. Though it lost a little of its effervescent zing, it retained a sharp, citrus attack with creamy layers underneath (think lemon merengue). A wonderful, rich take on sav blanc. Drink now.

The more I drink wine the less I know. Below you will find a tasting note of this wine (originally 82 points) which was made in the first hour of opening the wine. The cork was put back and the bottle retuned to the the fridge. Now, 2 hours later, I go back to check and the wine has transformed. The fruit and the smokiness has come back and the dry bitterness in the finish has disappeared. It appears that an old friend has come back to life....There is still a caramel element, but it enhances now, rather than dominating. If you have any of this then make sure you decant for at least 2 hours before drinking, even if it seems a hopeless cause.
Original Note: Previous reviews have this spot on - its a wine past its best. The wine can age - an 01 the same age was great a few years ago - but this has faded. Toffee and caramel on the nose with some quince. Fruit comes through better as it warms up and but its slightly carmalized pinapple and it misses the sweaty socks the 01 had. Improves a lot with air, but there is a slight dryness to the finish that does not go away. Last bottle so good bye old friend.

Sadly, past its prime. I remember this wine as full bodied with a crisp, almost sparkling undertone. That's gone now. The fruit is muted and the the finish is flat. There are no off-putting flavors, just shadows of what used to be.
