Still drinking well, but this bottle wasn't nearly as impressive as the one I had last summer. The fruit is more restrained. There was a long interesting finish of rosemary, freshly cut mint, and black pepper that unfortunately faded away after something like 30 minutes. This is becoming an elegant, classy wine rather than a stunner. I'd say drink soon.

Started with a bit of a spritz. But blew off with air, brambly and voluptuous. Still drinking great... crams great flavor into every corner. But never gets out over its skis

I really wanted to be impressed by this wine; I haven't been impressed by a Zin since mid 90's Martinelli Jackass, and based on Tanzer's review I thought this might be the one. Alas, it did not impress. Not a bad wine, it's not victim to the excessive alcohol and oak that plague so many Zins (and other California wines). However, there was no there there. No complexity, no nuance, and the notes it shouts so loudly aren't all that interesting. Zin is dead to me. C+

This zin is still drinking great with many years left. Huge, broad aromatics and nice spice/fruit combination on the palate. I personally like the 2003 better because it is more integrated, silkier, and less aggressive.
