  I was expecting more from this vintage. I've had several friends tell me this is better than the '08 but I personally think it needs more time. The wine was still very tight and little over acidic. I think with another year or two it will come together much better.

  Decanted approx. 2 hours ... Opens with big, blue and black fruit. A hint of spice. A little soft, but eminently drinkable and enjoyable. Rich and lush. Just enough tannins to give a bit of backbone, but a little drier and a bit more acid could have taken this from really good to outstanding.

  pop and pour, consumed over 10 hours.
  
  crowd-pleasing in its style, with an almost buttery overly to the ripe and dusty black and red fruits. very enticing baking spices on the nose and finish, with sumptuous black and red fruits that lingered pleasantly for 20-30 seconds.
  
  sticking my nose in this wine i found myself really enjoying its aromas, but i couldn't help but think that it lacked any varietal typicity. that's not a bad thing, though. after being underwhelmed again by an archimage, i was very pleased with this illusionist and glad i have more. if scoring, 89-91.
